Odoo's worker model means concurrent users, not total users, size the machine. Ten people logged in and idle is not the same as ten people posting entries.
Odoo VPS
Odoo ERP hosting on an Indian VPS
Self-hosting Odoo means you control the Python workers, the PostgreSQL tuning and the module set, which is what most Indian implementations need once they start customising GST reports, inventory flows and approval chains.
Sizing
Three honest starting points.
Pick the row that describes what you have now, not what you hope to have in a year. Moving up a tier later is easier than paying for headroom you never use.
| If you are running | Start at | Specification | Monthly | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Up to about 10 concurrent users Odoo workers plus PostgreSQL fit in 8 GB for a modest module set. | VPS 8 | 4 vCPU / 8 GB RAM / 80 GB NVMe | ₹1,438 | Deploy |
| 20 to 50 concurrent users Worker count scales with users; PostgreSQL wants real memory. | VPS 32 | 12 vCPU / 32 GB RAM / 320 GB NVMe | ₹4,799 | Deploy |
| Heavy manufacturing or inventory modules MRP and stock moves generate expensive queries. | VPS 64 | 24 vCPU / 64 GB RAM / 640 GB NVMe | ₹9,599 | Deploy |
Worth knowing first
Three things most pages about this leave out.
PostgreSQL tuning delivers more than an extra plan tier for most Odoo deployments. Default settings are conservative.
Odoo Enterprise requires its own subscription from Odoo. Hosting the community edition is free of that, but the module gap is real for Indian accounting.
Setup checklist
Do these on day one.
- Set worker count from concurrent users, then tune PostgreSQL.
- Put the filestore on the same volume you back up.
- Test the upgrade path on a clone before touching production.
- Keep custom modules in version control, not only on the server.

Common questions
Odoo VPS, answered.
What VPS size does Odoo need?
A 4 vCPU / 8 GB plan supports roughly ten concurrent users on a standard module set. Move to 12 vCPU / 32 GB for twenty to fifty concurrent users, or sooner if you run manufacturing, inventory or heavily customised modules.
Community or Enterprise edition?
Community can be self-hosted with no subscription. Enterprise requires a subscription bought from Odoo and adds modules that many Indian implementations rely on, particularly around accounting. The hosting is identical either way.
Can I run Odoo and PostgreSQL on the same VPS?
Yes, and for most deployments you should. Splitting them adds a network hop and operational complexity that only pays off at larger scale or when you need to size the two independently.
How do I handle GST reporting?
Through Odoo's Indian localisation modules and whatever filing tool your accountant uses. That is an application decision rather than a hosting one, but the server needs to be reachable and backed up during filing periods.
